The SBDC visits Local Entrepreneurs for SHOP SMALL

November 21, 2018

The Shop Small Movement and Shop Small Saturday remind us of the importance our local small businesses play in our community. On November 20th, the SBDC at NJCU visited two remarkable businesses in Jersey City, NJ.

HEIRS INC.

The first, Heir’s Inc., opened in 1918. Located on 525 West Side Avenue Jersey City, NJ. This local shop sells Footwear and Apparel ranging from hoodies, sweaters, gloves, jackets, and windbreakers featuring top brands such as Nike, Jordan, Polo, Adidas, Levi’s, and so much more. A hundred years later, thanks to owner Jeff Heir, local residents can enjoy having a wide selection of top brands with competitive prices just minutes away from work, home, or even school. This incredible business plays an essential role in their community creating local jobs, product diversity, and ensuring that their items are available to local customers, someone who is looking for a limited-edition item, and visitors from all around. Heir’s Inc. carries any size, men’s’, women’s’ and children’s clothing! The shop has a high rating and is known for its incredible selection and an even more welcoming atmosphere, something every town needs.

THE BIKE HUB

The second stop, The Bike Hub, is another breathtaking stop and a look at the limitless possibilities of local entrepreneurs and business owners. The Cyclery is located on 191 Monticello Avenue, Jersey City NJ. The store carries brands including Focus, Trek, Jamis, and KHS bicycles. Selling Bikes is not their only venture, as The Bike Hub does repairs ranging from quick fix, routine maintenance, to even upgrading components. The shop is also in the business of trading in old models, and donating to the community. As of August 2017, The Bike Hub donated over 100 Bikes to underprivileged children. Some of the traded models are also re-sold at low costs to make sure anyone is able to purchase a bike. Owner Behzad “Buzz” Pasdar believes The Bike Hub was founded on the ideals of making the community better through outreach and cycling, providing great service to the local community and visitors from all over.
